So, you’re using a razor blade to clean up some glass or get rid of a sticker, and you’re probably wondering if it could scratch it.

Glass, on the Mohs hardness scale (a scale that measures the hardness of materials), typically falls between 5.5 and 7. Regular razor blades, on the other hand, are usually made from razor steel, which ranks around 5.5.

If you look at the Rockwell C scale, steel has a lower rating than glass in that too.

Since glass is at least as hard as, or even harder than, a razor blade, it's pretty much impossible for a regular razor blade to scratch glass. The blade simply isn’t hard enough to leave a mark.

#1 Use A Fresh, Sharp Blade
